Level 44 is the 44th Level of The Backrooms.
DESCRIPTION
| Figur 1.0 |
![]() |
| An area within Level 44, showcasing a kitchen and a staircase. |
Level 44 resembles a large seemingly endless house, with many different rooms and halls, which all appear "unsophisticated" and "otherworldly", which is due to their odd shapes and architectures. All of these rooms possess a light brown carpet in the living room, a marble floor in the kitchens, and a tiled floor in the bathrooms, while the walls all appear mainly beige with small accents of white. The Level also has an extremely high amount of floors, with it appearing to be an infinite amount.
Level 44 only contains 4 types of rooms, which include living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and closets, with each of these rooms being connected to one another via wooden doors. These sets of rooms are repeated and all appear nearly identical to one another, but vary in furniture placement, with some living rooms including things like couches and armchairs, while kitchens usually contain an empty fridge, an empty pantry, and a few counters, but the bathrooms and closets appear completely devoid of mostly anything, even lighting which makes them pitch black, with the bathroom only containing a bathtub and a toilet.
The rooms vary in size, with some rooms being abnormally small for a room of their type, or abnormally big with some spanning over 50 meters in length. The reason for this architecture choice is unknown, but it is one of the Level's few anomalies.
Windows may also be present within some of the rooms, which look out what resembles a vast empty blue sky, and what seems to be a small yard with what appears to contain a few trees, a children's sandbox, and a swing set. Although, outside of these windows there appears to be a thick fog encompassing the entirety of the outside, making things hard to make out.
Each floor of Level 44 is connected to one another via staircases, which have wooden railings and possess the same carpet as the living rooms. The staircases usually lead up to hallways with a wooden door at the end, this door leads to other rooms on the Level. These staircases appear in many different places within the Level and are commonly near the edges of rooms, but rarely they may be situated in the middle, which is strange as it seems to have no real purpose.
Life-Forms are present on Level 44, but due to the Level's sheer size, they are not very common to come by. The Level only contains a few types of Life-Forms such as Smilers and Hounds.
Due to the Level being relatively safe due to its sheer size, it's presumed that some travelers have used the Level as a resting spot, or as a place of permanent residency. This presumption is also backed up by a few objects that seem not to be native to Level 44, as some rooms have been recorded to contain empty bottles of Almond Water, among many other drinks such as water and soda. However, this isn't concrete due to this possibly being something that occurs within the Level, or if it is simply just litter that is a feature of Level 44.
HISTORY
Level 44 was initially discovered shortly after Level 43, with its first entry being recorded sometime in the '60s, with its first entry being found in Level 16. Originally the Level was believed to be devoid of any Life-Forms, but around two years later the first Life-Forms were documented in the Level, with Smilers being recorded first, which were found in a dark area in the Level.
ANOMALIES
The main anomaly of Level 44 is that in some more isolated areas of the Level, the geometry appears more chaotic and otherworldly, with walls in odd places, and some objects such as fridges floating or being clipped into a wall. Some isolated areas may also appear more maze-like, with a layout similar to that of Level 0, but containing more walls and furniture. These more maze-like areas still contain the main repeated rooms of the rest of the Level, but these appear with much stranger architecture, like pillars and walls in odd places, and arches replacing every doorway.
As mentioned before, the Level also features abnormally large and small rooms, with them varying in size. Although, to add onto this these rooms also periodically appear to change size when out of sight, or when they are exited. Although, due to the Level's Non-Euclidean nature, this may be due to the way its geometry works, with some rooms existing in the same areas, because of this it is believed by some that this anomaly is simply due to Level 44's odd nature.
ACCESSIBILITY METHODS
ENTRANCES
Level 44's main point of entry is by going up some staircases in Level 16, which is due to it also being a House Level.
White painted wooden doors within Level 43 that have an appearance akin to doors seen within many houses may lead you here.
EXITS
Level 44 can be exited through certain doors in the Level which can lead to Level 45.
Cloud-patterned doors may lead to Level 96, as it is also a House Level.
